Help Glean Broccoli

posted Sep 2, 2010 5:47 AM by Maine VOAD Admin   [ updated Sep 2, 2010 5:57 AM ]
It's become a tradition this time of year for Maine VOAD partners to get together and glean broccoli at Smiths Farms in Presque Isle. Broccoli is donated to Good Shepherd Food-Bank and other VOAD partners and distributed to food pantries and soup kitchens across the state.

Please consider lending a hand Wednesday, September 15 (Rain Date: Thursday, Sept. 16) The more volunteers we have, the more broccoli is gleaned for people in need. Learn more about hunger in Maine at www.gsfb.org

Itinerary:
6am - Partners from the south can meet at Dysarts Trucking in Hermon to Caravan north.
9am - Arrive at Presque Isle area at 9am (Andy from Smiths Farm will advise us of the field location two days before)
12pm - Approximate time for lunch. Food and drinks provided.
1-3pm - Approximate end time.

Hopefully approx 12 -16 skids will be picked and be at the packing plant around 2-3pm for GSFB to pickup and distribute statewide through their warehouses in Auburn, Brewer and Portland.

If you are interested in picking or need more information please contact Bob Van Deventer at 487-1199 or email bobvnert@uninets.net
