Local officials and relief workers will be on the scene after a disaster, but they cannot reach everyone right away. The best way to make you and your family safer is to be prepared before disaster strikes.

Volunteers are often needed during a disaster to aid victims, rebuild communities, educate the public and prepare for future disasters. Unfortunately, without proper training, screening and communication, showing up during an emergency can create a more dangerous situation. 

While you may be able to lend a hand on the spot, affiliating with an organization as soon as you can, before a disaster even strikes, is the best way to fill needed roles. It also offers many advantages such as training and the ability to fill vital roles quickly and effectively when needed.
